Ben Sharpa in Cosmo magazine? Yeah, you read it right - the one and only Ben Sharpa aka Oh Kaptin My Kaptin is elevating South African Hip Hop to new heights (and his solo album ain't even out yet!).
Support local Hip Hop and go and buy yourself a copy of the December 2007 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. Our very own Ben Sharpa is featured in a piece called SA Stars Going Global. It's on page 49 of the Cosmo Rocks section. There's a nice photo of Rhianna on the cover, you can't miss it

Come to the album launch party / 29 Aug 2007 - Roosevelt!

Hello everybody,,
I've been working flat out on the How We Roll music video, which is about a couple of days away from completion.
Beta tapes will be delivered early next week to various new hip hop telly shows!
Hence the lack of post, I'm being focused here :)
Don't forget we're having the Planetary Assault launch party on the 29 of August at Roosevelt in Cape Town (Loop Street). There was some hiccup with the first venue and Dplanet worked very hard to find an available better and nicer place. Roosevelt is so lush and glamorous, I can't wait!
The show is also going to be quite different from the usual (sleepy) hip hop shows, and the line up counts most of the super talented Cape Town MCs! Not to be missed! You'll also be able to purchase the album and teeshirts.
Flyer below, see you there, let's celebrate!
PS:
You can add this event on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=2383768364

For the very last You Don’t Know to take place at the Big Chill House, we are pleased as punched to welcome Mary-Anne Hobbs, wearing little wire-framed spectacles in her new role as Club Curator. What we’re trying to say is, she’s DJ'ing but she’s also picked everyone else. Personally. Her mission for the night..."To bring together dark exotic underground textures of sound from the UK and internationally..."
Joining her and her huge box of upfront dubstep and plinkety-ploo is a quite remarkable bill. The night starts with Madam Mary herself, who will kick things off with a booyaka, some gun fingers and no little bouncing. Following on is South African hip hop from **Konfab**. One of the biggest names in underground hip hop in Africa (hailing from straight outta Cape Town), Konfab both innovates and experiments to get your head nodding.
Next up is Oris Jay, the Forward regular who pioneered beyond the dark garage sound and built the basslines that formed the blueprint for Dubstep as you know it in 2007, is followed by liveness courtesy of The Bug, Kevin Martin’s recently Ninja-signed earbleed-dub-dancehall-griminy project. The Bug won Mary-Anne Hobbs live session in 2004. The screw-faced wonder will be joined by MC's Ricky Ranking (Roots Manuva/Banana Klan) and Ras B. More crew business will come from Virus Syndicate, the Mancunians who prove that dubstep/grime ain’t an exclusively London ting, before Vex’d- the London-based duo signed to Planet Mu, finish things off, revealing new tracks from thier forthcoming album.
Upstairs, DJ Red 6 - founder of Edinburgh’s popular ‘Give It Some!’ nights, steps up to the plates and spoils you with his collection of funk, soul and reggae 45’s alongside Solid Steel Radio regulars, the mighty Sandals Of Justice.
Be there, be prepared, enjoy walking up and down those stairs…
